Sleep Type Guide

Sleep Type Guide

Side, back, stomach, combination - and the profiles that cut across them: hot, cold, light and couples. Find your type and the materials that work for it.

Why your sleep type matters more than the brand

The same mattress can be perfect for a side sleeper and wrong for a stomach sleeper. Position decides where your body needs give and where it needs support; profiles like hot or light sleeping decide the materials.

  • Spine alignment

Your mattress should keep your spine in a neutral line — whatever position you land in.

  • Pressure relief

Different positions load different joints. The right feel spreads that load evenly.

  • Two-person balance

If you share a bed, the mattress has to work for both bodies and both positions.

Side Sleeper

Side Sleeper

Look for Soft to Medium (3-5/10) with a contouring comfort layer.

Main comfort needs

  • Side sleepers put most of their weight on the shoulders and hips.
  • A slightly softer surface lets those points sink in while keeping the spine straight.

Best materials

Back Sleeper

Back Sleeper

Medium to Medium Firm (5-7/10) with zoned support works best.

Main comfort needs

  • Back sleepers need even support along the whole spine and a little give under the lower back.
  • Too soft and the hips sag; too firm and the lumbar curve is left unsupported.

Stomach Sleeper

Stomach Sleeper

Go Firm (7-10/10) with a supportive core and a low-profile pillow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — position changes where your body puts pressure on the bed. The right firmness and materials keep your spine neutral, which is the single biggest factor in waking up rested.

Yes. A surface that does not give at the shoulders and hips creates pressure points and lets the spine bow. Side sleepers and lighter bodies feel this first — aim for the softer end of your range.

Give it two to four weeks. Your body needs time to unlearn the old mattress and the comfort layers need a few nights to open up, which is why every mattress ships with a trial period.

Within limits. A topper softens a mattress that feels too firm, and a firmer topper or a plywood base firms one that feels too soft. Neither fixes a sagging core — that is a warranty case.

Most people with lower-back pain do best on medium to medium-firm (5–7/10): enough support to keep the hips from sinking, enough give to let the shoulders settle.
